Finding community in the streets: Street Life Ministries offers warm welcome to the Peninsula’s homeless

For David Shearin, extending a friendly hand to the Peninsula’s homeless community comes as second nature.
Executive director of the Street Life Ministries, a Redwood City-based nonprofit focused on providing meals and a sense of community for the homeless in Redwood City and Menlo Park, Shearin said many from his team of over 475 volunteers have experienced some of the challenges those they serve face today. While his nonprofit’s volunteers distribute nourishing meals to the homeless four nights a week, the sense of understanding that brings volunteers and those who come for meals each night offers a more fulfilling kind of sustenance.
