Anthony C.

Anthony is from Philadelphia and had a good childhood growing up. After high school, he started experimenting with drugs, which led him down a dark path of addiction. He went to various treatment centers in South Florida and California, but continued to struggle with his drug use, going in and out of treatment and jail.

It was during this time in Orange County that Anthony met a girl, whose father worked for Street Life Ministries. The father repeatedly reached out to Anthony and his girlfriend, urging them to get sober and better their lives. After several rejections, Anthony finally agreed to go with the father to the Bay Area.

When Anthony arrived in the Bay Area, he met David Sheeran from Street Life Ministries. David provided Anthony with crucial support, putting him up in a hotel room for a few weeks and helping him get connected to AA meetings and a local church. David also introduced Anthony to a network of supportive men who have continued to guide him on his journey.

With the help of this community, Anthony was able to fully immerse himself in a program of Alcoholics Anonymous. He got a sponsor and started working the 12 steps, something he had struggled to do in the past. This time, the support he received allowed him to achieve over 2 years of continuous sobriety – the longest stretch he has ever had.

Street Life Ministries has continued to be a vital source of support for Anthony. They have provided him with essential resources like clothing, food, and even a car. Most importantly, the men involved in the ministry have become a trusted support system that Anthony can turn to for advice and guidance.

Today, Anthony is incredibly grateful for the journey he has been on and the support he has received. He now works as an HH case manager at Life Moves, helping others who are struggling with substance abuse issues, just as he once did. Anthony’s story is a testament to the power of community and the life-changing impact that organizations like Street Life Ministries can have.
